Legal Notice October 19, 2023 Susan Bonham, Harrison County Auditor 712-644-2401 Notice of Intent to Fill the Vacancy in the Office of Harrison County Attorney by Appointment Effective November 1, 2023, there will be a vacancy for the position of the County Attorney for Harrison County. Pursuant to Iowa Code sections 69.8, 69.14A, and 39.17 the Board of Supervisors gives the following notice. The vacancy of the County Attorney may be made by appointment by the Board of Supervisors or by Special Election. The Board of Supervisors intends to fill the vacancy by appointment, but the electors of the County have the right to file a petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by special election. The person appointed to the County Attorney position must be a resident of the County at the time of the appointment. This appointment shall be effective through the General Election on November 5, 2024, at which time the person elected to the succeeding term shall serve the balance of the unexpired term. The Harrison County Auditor (111 N 2nd Ave, Logan, IA) must receive the letters of intent for appointment by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from anyone interested in filling the above term of office. The appointment will be made on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 after receipt of the letters of intent. The Board of Supervisors has the right to reject any and all letters of intent. Within fourteen (14) days of the Board of Supervisors appointment of a new County Attorney, a member of the public may file a petition with the county Auditor requesting a special election to fill the vacancy. The petition shall meet the requirements of Section 331.306. The petition is valid if signed by electable electors of the County equal in number to at least ten (10) percent of the votes cast in the County for the Governor at the preceding general election which equals 554 signatures.
