The Woodbine American Legion Post No. 143 is sponsoring a candidate for attendance at the 2024 “Boys State” camp in Des Moines this June. This program is Iowa’s premier hands-on civic leadership camp. It is a six-day immersive mentoring camp that provides experiences in the operation and fundamentals of government. It shapes and empowers students in decision making while developing leadership skills. The activities include sports, public speaking, tours of the state capital, obstacle courses and other experiences.

Candidates must be from the Woodbine Community School District, and must currently be in the 11th grade. Interested students for the “Boys State” program should inform a school counselor who will then forward an application request to the American Legion post in Woodbine. The Legion post will review applications and interview candidates for selection. The application process must be completed before April 15th . For more information, go to www.ialegion.org/boysstate.

The American Legion of Iowa also has a “Girls State” program, which can be reviewed at www.ialegion.org/girlsstate.
