Rita Maxine (Lary) Christensen, 75, died on Monday, May 6, 2024, at her daughter’s home outside of Logan, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on May 7, 1948, in Dunlap, to parents Virgil & Anna (Renz) Lary. Rita attended Douglas Hill Country School and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1966. She lived in Florida, North Carolina, Woodbine and Dunlap. Rita had worked at Foodland Grocery Store, did day care in her home and she worked at the nursing home. Rita held down three jobs at a time to provide for her kids. Rita married Michael Christensen on Jan. 18, 1987, at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. The couple lived in Dunlap all their married life. Michael died on Dec. 30, 2023.

Rita was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. She had been interested in genealogy since high school and loved spending many hours researching both sides of her family tree. She also loved watching and helping to raise several children and grandchildren that were very close to her heart. Rita Loved the outdoors, especially taking care of her flowers. She found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael; son, Craig Booher; great-grandson, Oliver Bruce Miller; and brother-in-law, Gorden Frazier. She is survived by her children, Dawn and her husband Bryan Klein of Logan, Brian Christensen and his wife Erica of Blair, Neb., JoAnna and her husband Mike Bonham of Dunlap and Mandy Pippitt and Jeremy Oloff of Logan; 11 grandchildren; 11 + great-grandchildren; sister, Rosetta Frazier of Gretna, Neb.; brother, Virgil Lary and his wife Susan of Interlachen, Fla.; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. Rev. Chip Borgstadt presided over the service. The recorded musical selections were “The Old Rugged Cross” by Alan Jackson, “Amazing Grace” by Reba McEntire and “Go Rest High on that Mountain” by Vince Gill. The pallbearers were Nathan Foutch, Dillon Miller, Jacob Allen, Mike Allen, Brent Frazier and Josh Lary.
