Movies to keep an eye on in 2024

Posted

Generation Z has given the new year a new name — 2024 (for) the plot. Emphasizing their acts toward creating a chaotic and unforgettable year. I can get behind the name, but for different purposes. Taking the plot more seriously, a new year means new movies and I am nothing but thrilled.

Although I could argue that 2013 is my favorite year of film, and 2023 had some great releases, I can also confidently say that I am looking forward to what this year has to offer.

Ranging anywhere from family movies to some new horror, I have picked out my top four movies that I am looking forward to and would recommend to everyone else as well.

Inside Out 2”

As a friend of someone who is obsessed with the first movie, when I saw the trailer for the second, I was nothing but excited to see this on the 2024 list. Introducing new characters — emotions — such as anxiety and embarrassment. In the original, the emotions only covered the basis. Anger, disgust, happiness, fear and sadness. With the addition of new emotions, I can almost guarantee that the movie is going to be even more enjoyable for the adults watching this movie.

Twisters”

A follow up to the 1996 classic that shows the story of storm chasers, tracking down one of the largest tornadoes they have seen. I grew up on this movie. My mother always loved the film and as a Midwesterner, I always found interest in it as well. The release of the second movie has piqued my interest and I know all of my fellow “Twister” fans are just as excited.

Mickey 17”

Oscar winning director, Bong Joon-ho, commonly known for his work with “Parasite,” Is back with what we can only hope is his next Oscar-winning film. “Mickey 17” hasn’t given us much. Even though its release is set for March, we have yet to see an official trailer for the movie, rather, we have a vague description about a sci-fi movie. “Parasite” was a movie I never thought I was going to enjoy, but I couldn’t say the same by the end of it. More than anything, I am looking forward to what Joon-ho will come up with this time.

Joker: Folie à Deux”

I know the last Joker movie was not exactly at the top of everyone's list, but it was in mine. The movie score, along with the dramatization of just about every scene, I was drawn in immediately. Although there isn’t much that can top Heath Ledger’s performance of the Joker, I would say Joaquin Phoenix is almost right up there with him. His work in “Her” was astounding and if there is a chance to see another performance of his, I will always take the opportunity.
