Harrison County Supervisors Meeting October 26, 2023 Chairman John Straight called the meeting to order with members Tony Smith and Brian Rife in attendance. Motion to approve the tentative agenda was made by Smith, second by Rife. Motion carried. Previous minutes were approved on a motion by Smith, second by Rife. Motion carried. Attendance: Deputy Auditor Megan Reffett, Paul J. Rhoten, Rebecca Wilkerson Family Crisis Center Victim advocates from Family Crisis Center presented to the board about the services that they offer to help victims and families affected by homicide and other violent crimes. They explained that they are a nonprofit and provide free services and receive most of their funding from state and federal grants but also rely on counties and private donations. They asked the board for funding for next fiscal year and the board agreed to consider their organization during the budget planning process. Comments Rebecca Wilkerson commented on the Logan Magnolia School Board forum that was held With business of the day completed, the Board adjourned on a motion by Smith, second by Rife. County Attorney Appointment Chairman Straight informed the members that only one candidate, Ashley West-Joons, had submitted a letter of intent for consideration for the appointment of county attorney. Rife made the motion to appoint Ashley West-Joons as Harrison County Attorney until the next general election, second by Smith. Motion carried. Member Smith recited the oath of office to Ashley West-Joons in front of her family and friends. With business of the day completed, Rife made the motion to adjourn, second by Smith. Motion carried.
