Vicky A. Henkelman, 72

Vicky Ann Henkelman was born on Oct. 16, 1949, to Fay and Helen (Burns) Fouts in Dunlap. She attended school in Dunlap, graduating with the Class of 1967. Vicky went on to attend Stewart Cosmetology School and worked at a beauty shop in Woodbine. Vicky married Dave “Elmer” Melby and they were blessed with two children, Darcy and Doug. Vicky worked at Farmland in Denison. On March 30, 1980, she was united in marriage to Tom Henkelman. The couple lived in Denison before moving to Vancouver, Wash., so that they could attend airline school. The family moved to Denver where Vicky worked for the Pioneer Airline Company and then for United Airlines. In 2007, Vicky transferred to Omaha, Neb., where she continued her work with United until her retirement in 2011.

Vicky enjoyed crafts, reading, crossword puzzles and card games on the computer. She loved to travel and go on cruises. She enjoyed going to Goodwill, collecting angels and was known to have a green thumb. Vicky volunteered for many charitable organizations. Most of all, Vicky loved spending time with her grandkids.

Vicky died on Jan. 17, 2022, at her home in Omaha at the age of 72 years, three months and one day.

Vicky was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Billy; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Kloewer and Dave Young. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Tom Henkelman of Omaha; two children, Doug Melby and his wife Jill, and Darcy and her husband Nick Behrendt all of Dunlap; six grandchildren; three plus great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Pauline Kloewer of Harlan, Bob Fouts of Dunlap, Phil (Anita) Fouts of Woodbine, Kenneth (Janice) Fouts of Dunlap, Phyllis (WD “Pete”) Peterson of Sahuarita, Ariz., Becky Young of Mesa, Ariz., and Jim (Peggy) Fouts of Dow City; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service was held Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at the Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap. Officiating was Rev. Joel McNeil. Recorded Musical Selections were “How Great Thou Art”, “Love Me Tender”, “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” and “Remember Me” all by Elvis. Honorary Pallbearers were Vicky’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers Geoff Fouts, Paul Fouts, Ronnie Fouts, Matthew Henkelman, Tom Peterson and Mark Young. Final Resting Place Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap.

Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap was in charge of arrangements.
