Vernon Howard Andrews, 71, died on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Neb. He was born on Aug. 6, 1950, in Logan, to parents Howard and Deloris (Price) Andrews. He grew up in the Moorhead, Soldier, Dunlap area and graduated from East Monona High School in 1968. Vern joined the United States Army in October of 1968, and served in Vietnam and Germany. After his honorable discharge he worked at Bill Dunlop’s service station in Moorhead, then began his 30-year career of truck driving with McCord Trucking and then other trucking companies. After he gave up driving truck, he worked security at the Menard’s warehouse in Shelby and then at Sullivan Supply. He retired from Sullivan Supply on Jan. 1, 2022.

Vern was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. He loved to ride his Triumph motorcycle. He loved to travel, visit museums and watch western shows, especially Gunsmoke. Vern made sure he made it to Carter’s sporting and school events and the annual Holt picnic. He was a member of the Dunlap American Legion and was chosen to go on an Honor Flight in August of 2021. Vern always had a positive attitude, a smile on his face and a joke to share with you. Vern loved to visit and could strike up a conversation with the young as well as the old.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Dennis Fineran. Vern is survived by his stepchildren, Tami and her husband Chad Lundquist of Sioux Rapids, Gordon Ehlers of Council Bluffs and Lucas Ehlers of Sioux City; ten grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Fineran of Grand Junction, Colo.; companion, Marilyn Berens of Dunlap; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. Pastor Chip Borgstadt presided over the service. The musicians were Stephanie Lantz and Becky Berens. The songs were “Amazing Grace”, “My Life Flows On In Endless Song”, “Borning Cry” and “Happy Trails”. The honorary pallbearers were Gordon Ehlers, Jerry Ray Renz, Clara Berens, Cody Berens, Dylan Berens, Jacob Berens, Lena Berens, Lucas Berens, Reagan Berens, Amanda McCleery, Megan McCleery, Ray Crilly and Frannie Hughes. The pallbearers were Carter Buckley, Lucas Ehlers, Jason Fineran, Jeremy Fineran, Jeff Berens, Mike Berens and Wally Murphy. Vern’s final resting place is at the Omaha National Cemetery in Omaha, Neb.
