Bridgit Jolkowski is this quarter’s recipient of DCDC’s “That’s How It’s Dun” Award. This award is part of a community service recognition program created to honor those who go above and beyond in their volunteer service contributions to the Dunlap community.
Jolkowski, formerly Bridgit Buresh, has spent most of her life in Dunlap. The Buresh family moved to the area when she was in second grade. After graduating from Boyer Valley, she lived in Lincoln and Omaha for college, and in 2014, she and her husband, Mike, made the decision to move back to Dunlap with the intent of growing their family.
“We were drawn back to Dunlap because of the strong sense of community and positive environment it provides for raising children,” shared Jolkowski. “I wanted our kids to experience the same tight-knit community and friendly atmosphere that I loved growing up.”
Mike and Bridgit are raising four young boys: Ryan, age 7; Micha, age 7; Lincoln, age 5; and Luke, two months old.
“The list of Bridgit’s volunteer work is very impressive,” said Jill Schaben, DCDC Executive Director, “but I feel the real benefit to our community is in just how creative she is. Anyone that has attended an event that Bridgit has played a role in organizing has likely been extremely impressed!”
Jolkowski was one of three who organized Art at the Park this year, with a fun, “Fall into the Arts” theme. Mums, hay bales and pumpkins enhanced the park for this fun family event. She also plans and decorates for the Saint Patrick Church’s annual fundraiser dinner, creating impressive décor around themes like “Mardis Gras” and “Fiesta!”
“I believe it's important to get involved in our community because it's our home, and we have a stake in making it the best it can be,” Jolkowski said. “When we pitch in and support local projects, events, and businesses, we're not just making our town better for ourselves - we're setting the stage for a brighter future for our kids.”
“By working together, we can create a community where everyone feels supported and valued. It's about building a place where our children can grow up feeling connected and proud of where they come from. Plus, when we show our kids the importance of lending a helping hand, we're passing down the kind of values that make our town a great place to live for generations to come.”
This dedication to future generations is a reflection of how Jolkowski was raised. She joins her dad, long-standing 4 County Fair Board member Bob Buresh, in organizing and operating the annual fair in Dunlap.
She also supports many school activities, most recently serving as the President of the newly-formed Boyer Valley Parent Teacher Organization. The BV PTO has been busy throughout the summer with fundraising efforts. The organization puts great focus on appreciating teachers, ensuring a necessary allotment of school supplies and supporting the school in other areas, where applicable.
Admitting that she tries to help on projects as often as she can find the time, Jolkowski has also helped with painting community murals, decorating for Vacation Bible School, volunteering at the Girl Scout’s Community Garden and taking part in trash pickup.
“I love Dunlap because of the people,” Jolkowski said. “Our community is filled with individuals who genuinely care about each other and the place we call home. Whether it's rallying together to support a neighbor in need, working towards the continual improvement of our town, or coming together to enjoy fun events, the sense of camaraderie and generosity here is what sets Dunlap apart.
“It's the way our town pulls together during challenging times, the everyday acts of kindness that show how much we look out for one another, and the shared commitment to making Dunlap a welcoming and thriving community that make me proud to call this place my home. From the friendly faces you pass on the street to the countless volunteers and local leaders who work tirelessly behind the scenes, it's the people of Dunlap who make living here so special.
“Volunteering is such a meaningful way to make a real difference right here in our small town. By volunteering, you have the chance to see the impact of your actions up close and personal. Whether it's organizing a community event, coaching a kids’ sports team or helping to beautify our town, every little effort adds up to create a big positive change that we can all benefit from. Plus, getting involved in our community can be so rewarding on a personal level, as you meet new people, learn new skills, and grow as a person, all while making Dunlap an even better place to call home!”
