Roger Lee Sullivan, 65, died on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at his home near Dunlap. He was born Aug. 31, 1959, to Leo Paul and Norma (Mitchell) Sullivan in Ankeny. He graduated from Dunlap High School in 1978. Roger began working in high school for Sullivan Seed and Grain as well as helping his dad with the farm and cattle. He then helped his dad operate Sullivan Pioneer Seed. Roger worked for Hartman Cattle Co. in Tecumseh, Neb., working for 15 years there with cattle and llamas. He also worked in Omaha for five years, before moving to Minnesota to work with Frank Sullivan at O’Sullivan Cattle Company, Terry Stade farms and Alex Stade Shorthorns. Roger moved back to Dunlap in 2020 and began working for Sullivan Supply.
Roger enjoyed showing and working with cattle, spending time with his special dog, Buddy, going deer hunting and especially just hanging out with his friends. He was a guy that was liked by everyone he met. Roger took the time to get to know people and make long lasting connections, especially with many relatives both young and old. He enjoyed traveling all over the country to cattle shows where he met many people that he called friends. He was truly one of a kind.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leo A. Sullivan. He is survived by his daughter, Josie Mefferd of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren, Omar, Christian and Keyshia Mefferd; siblings, Bart Sullivan and his wife Lisa, Joe Sullivan and his wife Beth, Dave Sullivan, John Sullivan and his wife Dede all of Dunlap, Dan Sullivan of Hillsboro, Texas and Jean and her husband Wayne Beam of Ankeny; and many other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap. The Celebrant was Rev. Samuel Danso assisted by Deacon Sam Sullivan. The honorary pallbearers were the Roger Sullivan Foundation Board and Roger Sullivan 4 County Fair Board. The pallbearers were Joseph O’Sullivan, Paddy O’Sullivan, Alex Stade, Bob Sullivan, Scott Mitchell, Danny Teneyck, Richard “Ted” Kline and Paul Fouts. Roger’s final resting place is at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
