Paul Edward Meeves was born May 18, 1937, to the late Edward and Velma (Huelsman) Meeves on their family farm in Dunlap. He was baptized on June 20, 1937, and he later confirmed his faith on March 18, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. He graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1955.
After graduation, Paul worked for Ettleman's in Dow City and Texaco in Denison. On Aug. 10, 1957, Paul was united in marriage to Betty Groth in Schleswig. To this union, three boys were born: Bryce, Brent and Bryan. They made their home in Dunlap.
He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, watching baseball and Kansas City Chiefs. He was an avid farmer where he raised cows, calves, pigs, sheep, horses, row crops and hay. He had a strong faith in his Lord and was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family more than anything.
Paul passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison attaining the age of 84 years, two months and 25 days. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his son: Bryan Meeves; brother: Gerald Meeves; brothers-in-law: Milfred Nemitz, Vertus Groth, Milroy Groth, Wilbert Groth and his wife Donna and Darlo Pirwitz; sisters-in-law, Darlene and her husband Arlo Jensen and Irene and her husband Herman Meiners.
Left to cherish his memories, his wife, Betty Meeves, of Dunlap; sons, Bryce Meeves and his wife Denise, of Denison, and Brent Meeves of Dunlap; grandchildren, Bradley Meeves of Manilla and Brooke Meeves of Denison; great-granddaughter, Morgan Meeves of Manilla; close family friend, Jason Knickman and his wife Jennifer and their children, Cooper and Addyson, all of Dunlap; sister, Jeanette Nemitz of Denison; sisters-in-law, Donna Meeves, of Schleswig, Marlene and her husband Gene Schneider, of Denison, Marlys Groth, of Denison, Marilyn Pirwitz, of Charter Oak, Margie and her husband Erwin Moeller, of Denison and Lorraine Groth, of Denison; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, with a Prayer Service. Private Family Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the service with interment in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Aaron Terwilleger served as musician singing "Just a Closer Walk with Thee," "Jesus Loves Me" and "How Great Thou Art." Serving as honorary pallbearers were Paul's nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers were Bradley Meeves, Brooke Meeves, Jason Knickman, Cooper Knickman, Pat Corey, Jay Meade, Tim Hennings, Jim Hikins, Jim Andresen, Corey Utech, Jared Henningsen, Jerry Meeves, JR Pauley, Steve Wessling, Mike Bremser and Todd Briggle. Following the committal service, the family invited everyone to St. John's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Charter Oak for a time of fellowship and lunch. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
