In keeping with Jimmy King’s legacy of charitable giving, the Dean J. King Family Foundation awarded a total of $1,615,392 in grants, academic scholarships and music camp scholarships in 2024.
In 2019, the Foundation began an annual two-year scholarship program for 25 Harrison County seniors attending a two-year or four-year institute of higher learning. Scholarships are also available for those wishing to pursue less-than-two-year educational opportunities. In the six years since inception, well over a million dollars has been awarded as Jimmy King Scholarships. Applications for these scholarships are now available in all Harrison County guidance counselor offices.
Additional scholarships include the original Jimmy King West Harrison scholarships and annual music camp scholarships for each of the Harrison County schools.
In Dec. 2024, 73 grants were awarded to the following:
Boyer Valley Community School District (CSD), Logan-Magnolia CSD, Missouri Valley CSD, Woodbine CSD, West Harrison Booster Club, West Harrison Farm Prairie Restoration, Harrison County Conservation Board, Harrison County Ag Extension District, Friends of the Loess Hills and the Harrison County Fair.
Also receiving grants were the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Harrison County Landfill, Harrison County Humane Society, Logan Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kingdom Kids, Mondamin Matthew’s House, Modale Fire Department, Magnolia Fire Department, Woodbine Fire Department, Pisgah Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Mondamin Fire and Rescue.
Grants were also awarded to the Missouri Valley Library, Woodbine Library, Dunlap Library Friends, Modale Library, Mondamin Community Center, Mondamin Jesse Strong Post, Missouri Valley Fraternal Order of Eagles, Logan Youth Wrestling, Boyer Valley Youth Sports, Missouri Valley Youth Softball, Missouri Valley Youth Baseball, Woodbine Little League Baseball, Woodbine Mat Men and TeamMates.
Grants were also given to the City of Pisgah, Pisgah Reachout Group, City of Modale, City of Persia, City of Little Sioux, City of Missouri Valley, Missouri Valley Police Department, Watson Train, Nebowa Camp, Logan Community Foundation, Woodbine Saddle Club, Rand Community Center, City of Logan and the City of Mondamin.
The Dean J. King Family Foundation is a tax-exempt charitable foundation. Grants are awarded once per year for charitable, religious, educational or scientific purposes. Only federally recognized 501(c)3 organizations or those obtaining a qualified fiscal sponsor are eligible to apply.
Please note the Foundation does not fund ordinary operating expenses including but not limited to expenses for wages and salaries, repairs and maintenance, debt repayment, taxes and so on. The focus is the funding of specific ready-to-go projects that can be maintained by the applicant.
Applications for 2025 grants will be available at https://www.djkingfoundation.com Sept. 1 and will be due Oct. 15.
All 2024 grant recipients, please note that the evaluation sheet must be completed and returned by Sept. 1 to be eligible for a 2025 grant.
