David L. Winegar, 82

David Leroy Winegar was born on Nov. 1, 1942, in Sioux City, to Gale and Anna (Thoreson) Winegar. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating with the class of 1961. Dave went to work for United Airlines in Chicago for three years and attended Iowa State College for one year before moving back to Moorhead. Dave was united in marriage to Betty Ann Schulte on Nov. 1, 1968, at the courthouse in Blair, Neb. Dave went to work for Jimmy Kalskett and worked construction in Omaha before he started farming with his dad and then later farmed on his own.

Dave was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church. He loved to socialize and spend time with people. Dave felt especially blessed to be friends with Bill W. for over 39 years. He found great joy in time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Dave died on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2024, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, at the age of 82 years and nine days.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Michelle Winegar; and brother-in-law, Leo Schulte. He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Jason Winegar of Dunlap, Diana and her husband Tim Porath of Council Bluffs and Debra Davis of Dunlap; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Dixie and her husband Bill Blanchard of Yakima, Wash.; brother-in-law, Ray “Butch” Schulte and his wife Sheila of Dunlap; sisters-in-law, Jackie and her husband Larry Beam of Fremont, Neb. and Ellen Schulte of San Bernardino, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.

Dave’s wishes were to be cremated and have no services.
