Clarice I. Rule, 99

Clarice Ilene Rule, 99, died on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at the Dunlap Specialty Care Center. She was born on July 19, 1922, in Myrna, Neb., to Malen and Georgia (Holly) Wagner. Her dad died when she was very young and when she was three years old, she moved with her mother and sister to the Honeycreek area. Her mother married Oscar Lowe. When Clarice was a freshman in high school, their house in Honeycreek was lost in a fire and they moved to Council Bluffs. Clarice graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1940 and then she went on to Purdue State Teachers College and received her teacher’s certificate. She taught in Stanton for one year before moving to Dunlap to teach. On June 25, 1945, Clarice married Gilbert Rule. She went back to teaching in the 1960’s at the Dow City School where she taught Kindergarten. She retired from there in 1987. Gilbert died on April 27, 1975.

Clarice was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, the Retired Teachers Group and the Entre Nous Club. Clarice was known for her deviled eggs she would always bring to funeral luncheons and potlucks. She also delivered meals at the Senior Center and served on the Dunlap Care Center Board.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert Rule; son, Bart Rule; daughter-in-law, Debbie Rule; and sister, Celeste Lund. She is survived by her sons, Craig Rule of Brighton, Colo. and Alan Rule of Billings, Mo.; granddaughter, Tonya Goforth-Olson of Foristell, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap. Rev. Joel McNeil presided over the service and Rick Rannells provided the music. Clarice’s final resting place is at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap.
