BOYER VALLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF DIRECTORS – SPECIAL MEETING – FEBRUARY 19, 2022 10:00 A.M. – BOYER VALLEY ELEMENTARY CALL TO ORDER: President Steve Puck called a special meeting of the Boyer Valley Board of Education to order at 10:01 a.m. Members answering roll call were Paul Cogdill, Elizabeth Heistand, Craig Malone, Jen Miller, Steve Puck and Candace Ueding. Director Hansen was absent. Also present was Secretary Terra Sell. President Puck declared quorum present. Secretary Sell read the mission statement. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA: Motion by Ueding, second by Cogdill to approve the agenda with the correction of an exempt session instead of closed session by the Board. Motion carried 6-0. CLOSED SESSION: Motion was made by Miller, second by Heistand to enter into closed session pursuant to Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i) of the open meetings law to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual has verbally requested a closed session at 10:02 a.m. Ayes: Miller, Heistand, Cogdill, Malone, Puck and Ueding RETURN TO OPEN SESSION: At 10:40 a.m. a motion by Cogdill, second by Heistand to return to open session. Ayes: Cogdill, Heistand, Malone, Miller, Puck and Ueding CLOSED SESSION: Motion was made by Miller, second by Cogdill to enter into closed session pursuant to Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i) of the open meetings law to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual has verbally requested a closed session at 10:45 a.m. Ayes: Miller, Cogdill, Heistand, Malone, Puck and Ueding RETURN TO OPEN SESSION: At 11:27 a.m. a motion by Cogdill, second by Miller to return to open session. Ayes: Cogdill, Miller, Heistand, Malone, Puck and Ueding CLOSED SESSION: Motion was made by Miller, second by Cogdill to enter into closed session pursuant to Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i) of the open meetings law to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual has verbally requested a closed session at 11:29 a.m. Ayes: Miller, Cogdill, Heistand, Malone, Puck and Ueding RETURN TO OPEN SESSION: At 12:07 p.m. a motion by Miller, second by Ueding to return to open session. Ayes: Miller, Ueding, Cogdill, Heistand, Malone and Puck The Board took a break to allow the faculty and community committees to complete their assessments of candidates. No discussion was held during this time. Exempt Meeting: President Puck called to order at 12:47 p.m. an exempt meeting to formulate its position on the terms and conditions of employment for a non-union employee in private. A motion by Ueding, second by Miller to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 6-0. With no further business appearing before the board, President Puck declared the meeting adjourned at 2:21 p.m. These minutes are as recorded by the board secretary and subject to approval at the next regular board meeting.
